Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
If a visitor enters a name or case number in a search box, the query is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and returns results. North Carolina Court Docket does not keep a log of the search terms entered into those partner tools.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Messages sent to the site are retained so a response can be sent and the exchange can be handled. They remain with the site's team unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may receive technical information connected with that visit, including:
- The time and date of each page request
- Your browser type and version
- The pages opened and the time spent on them
- Your device and operating system
- The referring site, if one sent you here
- The IP address used by the device
Cookies and Analytics
Small cookie files may be stored on a visitor's device. They help show which pages are used and where visits end, while analytics tools summarize traffic patterns. Browser controls can block cookies. Some site functions may work differently after that setting is changed.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and maintaining site security
- Measuring which pages visitors use
- Routing search queries to the selected partner provider
- Keeping the pages available and responsive
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Court-Record Data on File
North Carolina Court Docket does not host or sell a database of court dockets or personal case files. It provides general information about the North Carolina eCourts Portal and the county Clerk of Superior Court offices that keep trial records. N.C. Gen. Stat. ยง 7A-109 concerns clerk-held court records and allows remote access to eligible records, but it does not place a case file in this site's custody. North Carolina Public Records Law, Chapter 132, applies to government agency records; it is not a way to obtain a county court file from this private reference site. North Carolina Court Docket is not a consumer reporting agency, and visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Third-party companies operate the search boxes shown on some pages. A query sent through one of those tools is handled under that provider's policy and retention practices. North Carolina Court Docket does not control how the provider stores or shares submitted information. Review its privacy terms before using the tool.
Links to Other Websites
Links on this site lead to outside pages, including North Carolina court services, county clerk resources, legal aid, and search providers. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Check those terms before sharing personal information.
Some advertising partners may use their own systems to follow browsing activity across sites and select ads. North Carolina Court Docket does not run that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. Information may be handled by:
- Analytics providers that summarize site traffic
- Government or law-enforcement authorities when a valid legal demand requires disclosure
- Search partners receiving queries submitted through their tools
- Advertising networks that place ads on the site
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect information collected through the site. No online service can promise that an incident will never occur, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If a minor's information has been provided, contact the site so it can be reviewed and removed.
Your Data Rights
North Carolina Public Records Law, N.C. Gen. Stat. Chapter 132, concerns access to government agency records. G.S. 7A-109 addresses court records held by clerks. Neither provision describes how this private site handles visitor information. A visitor may still contact the site to ask:
- Whether the site holds information associated with a message
- That an error in information held by the site be corrected
- That information supplied in a message be deleted
- That certain processing be stopped where the site can do so
Updates to This Policy
